Has Pizza Peaked? Domino's Leader Departs After Move Towards Chicken.
The chief executive of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who proposed the United Kingdom might have hit peak pizza while broadening the franchise into fried chicken has been removed after conflicts with its board.
Leadership Change
The former CEO is departing after just two years in leadership, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the organization's operations head, Frampton, while the pizza giant looks for a long-term chief.
The outgoing executive, who was with the company for a substantial period, had attempted to redirect the UK's largest pizza takeaway chain towards fried chicken, remarking recently there was not “huge potential” left in the UK's pizza market. He noted poultry was the quickest rising protein in the globe.
Board Friction
Sources suggest that there was tension between Rennie and the directors over his approach and direction, although the company's announcement said he was leaving “by mutual agreement”.
New Brand Introduction
In the autumn, the chain launched its poultry brand – which the former chief called a “significant new phase” for the organization – and is piloting it in select stores in the north-west of England and the province.
While the business is still going to roll it out across its extensive network in 2026 as scheduled, it views fried chicken as complementary to its main pizza offerings.
Board Comment
Ian Bull, the Domino's chairman, stated: “The board believes that there are a range of possibilities to drive further growth and performance improvement in our primary operations. We are focused on identifying the right chief executive to direct the systematic rollout of that development approach.”
Industry Difficulties
Earlier this month, Domino's, which has millions of users in the UK and Ireland, said orders declined by 1.5 percent in the latest quarter. In the summer, it warned that the food delivery sector had “become tougher” as it blamed reduced spending in the lead-up to the budget and increasing labor expenses for weaker-than-expected sales and a 15% drop in six-month income.
Rival chains are also facing challenges. Another major chain disclosed the closing of multiple locations a month ago, after the company behind its UK venues fell into administration.
Health Efforts
Responding to customer preferences towards balanced diets, the company has introduced light items, such as its light base selection of pizzas below 400 calories as well as vegan and allergy-friendly options. A large pepperoni pizza has 2,311 calories. A large cheese and tomato pizza has 2,171 kcal, while a individual has under 1,000 calories.
Interim Leadership
The interim chief has been with Domino's since the recent past, and was formerly with the betting firm a well-known operator. It is thought that she is not seeking to assume the CEO position on a full-time basis.
Frampton stated: “We have a number of active development and efficiency programs that we will be focused on carrying out at speed.”
Frampton noted these involved additional efforts on the company's logistics network and menu innovation, and its loyalty scheme.
The pizza chain is also in need of a long-term chief financial officer until March 16, when Andy Andrea comes aboard from the drinks company a well-known firm. For now, Richard Snow serves as temporary CFO.
