An extensive analysis has uncovered that AI-generated text has infiltrated the natural remedies title category on the online marketplace, with items promoting gingko "memory-boost tinctures", digestive aid fennel preparations, and citrus-based wellness chews.

According to scanning over five hundred publications released in the platform's herbal remedies section during January and September of 2024, researchers determined that the vast majority appeared to be authored by artificial intelligence.

However, neither the writer, the brand, or connected parties appear to have any internet existence beyond the platform listing for the title.

Identifying AI-Generated Text

Investigation discovered numerous red flags that suggest possible automatically created alternative healing text, featuring:

  • Extensive use of the nature icon
  • Botanical-inspired writer identities such as Botanical terms, Nature words, and Clove
  • Citations to disputed alternative healers who have advocated unproven cures for major illnesses

Wider Trend of Unchecked Automated Material

These books form part of a larger trend of unconfirmed automated text being sold on Amazon. In recent times, foraging enthusiasts were advised to avoid foraging books marketed on the platform, seemingly written by chatbots and featuring unreliable advice on identifying poisonous mushrooms from safe varieties.

Requests for Control and Identification

Business officials have called for the platform to begin labeling automatically produced text. "Every publication that is fully AI-generated should be identified as such content and AI slop needs to be taken down as an immediate concern."

In response, the company commented: "Our platform maintains publication standards regulating which titles can be listed for purchase, and we have proactive and reactive systems that assist in identifying content that contravenes our guidelines, whether artificially created or otherwise. We commit considerable manpower and funds to make certain our requirements are complied with, and take down titles that fail to comply to those requirements."
