Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will appear in the latest Hunger Games series instalment, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Major Return to Panem
Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their cameos will take the form of a future-set scene, given that the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.
This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
Exploring the New Story
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's story are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several notable actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
Current Projects and Release Timeline
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the production schedule:
- Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
- Filming concluded in November of the same year.
