Larry Summers Steps Down from OpenAI Board
One-time economic leader Lawrence Summers is leaving the board at the artificial intelligence firm, just days after a collection of electronic messages between him and deceased financier the disgraced billionaire became public.
He remarked in a release that he was "thankful for the opportunity to have participated, enthusiastic about the promise of the company, and anticipate following their progress".
The former Harvard president, who once presided over the prestigious university, stated on recently that he would be withdrawing from public commitments due to his connections with Jeffrey Epstein.
Email Communications
The newly public messages showed that the economist corresponded with Epstein until the eve of his 2019 apprehension for accused human trafficking of minors.
In another announcement, the technology organization stated it accepted the economist's choice to depart.
"We appreciate his numerous inputs and the perspective he provided to the governing body," OpenAI commented.
Political Context
This announcement arrives after both chambers of the legislative branch decided on Tuesday to pass a measure that would mandate the Department of Justice to disclose its files on Epstein.
The legislation will afterward proceed to the desk of the White House for approval. He has indicated he expects to approve the measure, after modifying his view on the subject following objections from his base.

A collection of financier-linked emails made public by the House Oversight Committee recently included multiple high-profile figures in the financier's past associates, without implying any legal wrongdoing by those figures.
The messages showed that the professor and Jeffrey Epstein regularly had dinners together, with he often seeking to connect Summers to prominent international personalities.
Personal Accountability
After the messages were shared with the general audience, the former official stated he took "complete accountability for my poor decision to continue corresponding with Mr Epstein".
He further stated that he desired "to rebuild trust and fix connections with the individuals most important to me".
Previous Positions
The economist occupied high-level positions under party leaders; serving as Treasury chief under the former president, and as director of the economic advisory body under Barack Obama.
He headed Harvard from the early 2000s and is still a professor there. When stating his withdrawal from public duties recently on this week, he stated he would persist with his educational duties.
Further Repercussions
Following Summers' declaration on Monday, the policy organization, a left-leaning research organization in DC where Summers was a researcher, confirmed that the economist was not connected with the organization.
Summers became part of the directorate of the technology firm, which creates ChatGPT, in the previous year - following a failed attempt to replace its chief executive the company leader.
